It's your training session and you choose what you'd like to focus on. If you're new to photography and want to understand how your camera works and start taking the pictures you envision, a beginner's session is a great place to start. For more experienced photographers, why not develop your landscape or architectural photography? If you love street photography, discover an approach that suits you and learn how to use minimal equipment.

Beginners:
Unlock the potential of your camera with simple tips and techniques designed to elevate your photography. Gain a comprehensive understanding of how to control the buttons, menus, aperture, ISO and white balance settings to transform your photography from snapshots to compelling images.

Street Photography:
Discover the art of black and white photography, often used for street photography, portraits and dramatic landscapes. When photographing in monochrome, learn to use natural light, shape and shadow to effortlessly enhance the quality of your images. Using colour in an urban setting brings a vibrancy and different focus to street photography.

Architectural & Landscapes:
Explore the intricacies of photographing historic buildings and landscapes using ND filters and long exposures, while experimenting with shapes and shadows within the scene. Berkhamsted, Tring, Hemel Hempstead Old Town and St Albans provide numerous photogenic locations to practice your new skills, from historic buildings and cobbled back alleys to varied landscapes and urban scenes.

Film photography:
Creative, nostalgic and analogue, try something different with film photography. This session covers 35mm and medium format film using an SLR or half-frame and MF cameras with aperture, shutter speed and EV controls. Through easy-to-follow exercises, explore intriguing hidden areas of London or your town, seeking alternate locations and subjects, focusing on achieving the right exposure and experimenting with compositions.

Bring your own film camera and three rolls of film or hire from us. We can show you how to load the film and control the camera's aperture and shutter to achieve the correct exposure. Photograph using black and white or pushed colour film for strong, contrasting colours, or explore retro cross-processing, the choice is yours.
